A Nice day in Nice, France

A quick train ride on the Thello got us from Milan, Italy to Nice, France.

Cost=€15 per person!!!

Duration: ~ 5 hrs

Recommended: YES. The cost to value ratio is worth the trip, if you have the time.

We were traveling to another country and expected to undergoes a few security checks on the train but other than the ticketing agent and some customs agents checking each train car, we were unbothered. No passport stamp 😕. No luggage hassles 😄.

We arrived to the Nice Ville Station and   was able to walk the few blocks to our hotel, The Grand Hotel Le Florence.

The hotel was booked with RocketMiles, a site that offers miles on various airline programs for hotel bookings. This booking offered 2000 thousand miles 😃.

I liked that the hotel was walking distance to the train station but overall, I’d choose a different hotel in the future. I was fine with the bathroom which was tiny but clean, I was even fine with the poor view.

I was not fine with the smell of mildew that seemed to permeate the room. In fairness, I will say I’m not sure if it was just our room or if every room had the same issue. Due to our short stay, 2 nights, we decided not to complain and just kept the window open; plus I travel with Febreze and that helped too.

This little birdie was there to welcome us to Nice. ❤️

Nice, France

Nice is a pretty little town and from our location we were walking distance to the waterfront.

It wasn’t as warm as I would have liked, in fact, both days were cloudy; however, a walk along the water and visits to the shops along the main road was nice.

 I’m not a big shopper but it’s nice to look around sometimes. I rarely have space in my luggage and my money is usually spent on food. I travel to eat!!!

We didn’t stay long but Nice is worth a stop. Next time, we’ll try to make it to Monaco and Cannes, both were highly recommended to us but we didn’t make it on this trip. Can you guess where this next train is taking us?

Although all rides aren’t scenic, I really do like the low maintenance of train travel. Don’t you?
